Comments/Observations:

York’s financial assistance scheme (YFAS) is provided by City of York Council to support people who require urgent assistance, following an emergency or unforeseen event, and supports vulnerable adults to move into or remain in the community.

The demand on the fund (£250K) in 2024/25 is high as the cost-of-living increases continue effect part of our community.  To ensure the council can provide funding through to 31st March 2025 the financial level of support is being reduced through both a monthly cap on spend (£20,000) and a reduction in the level of resettlement grants (£1.5k to £500).  Residents will also only be able to claim once in a 12-month period instead of twice. The council will continue to signpost residents to other agencies in the city who can help.

Decision:

To approve the reduction in YFAS financial support as set out in this decision report.
